Stop the Abuse

Abuse Towards Practice Staff

The following has been written for the attention of all our patients to advise everyone of the current situation at the Practice.
The Practice has always enforced a strict zero tolerance policy in place to ensure that all our staff are protected from any form of abuse. Like many other GP Practices across the country, unfortunately we have now also encountered a recent increase in the amount of staff abuse, intimidation and threatening behaviour which is leaving our staff anxious and upset. This is not the kind of environment that we wish to work in. Staff members are being shouted at on a daily basis and specifically targeted with false accusations. Only recently, a new low had been reached where a member of staff has become the victim of racial abuse. This type of abuse has never ever been experienced before at this Practice and this is an indication how difficult things have become.

Whilst we understand that the patients who behave this way only represent a minority of people, we would like to highlight that any such behaviour will not be tolerated. Patients who are abusive towards staff will be sent a warning letter. If there is any further such behaviour, they will be deducted from the surgery and will be asked to register at another GP Practice.

We recognise that our telephone lines are very busy every morning, and we appreciate that it is frustrating when there are no appointments available. However, we do not feel that these frustrations should result in the type of abuse that we are experiencing recently. We are trying to do our very best in challenging and unprecedented circumstances.

We have discussed all of the above with Practice Participation Group (PPG) who have supported us in sending this message out to all of our patients. If you wish to support the Practice further then please consider joining the PPG to see how you can help.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear Patient

In view of the current Covid-19 outbreak, all appointments will now be via telephone/video consultations only. Please call the surgery from 8.00am to book an appointment as usual.  Following your telephone/video consultation, the clinician may invite you (if appropriate) to be examined at the Practice.

Please do not attend the Practice and wait for an appointment without being advised to do so by a clinician otherwise you will just be sent home.

We encourage all patients to use Patient Access to order their medication and to use the messaging system as an alternative method of communication with the Practice.  The messaging system is available via Patient Access and can be used to order any medications that are not on repeat prescriptions or for any non-urgent queries (e.g. for administrative queries).  The Practice will no longer accept paper prescription requests.  These also include any paper requests that we receive from chemists.  So please do not order prescriptions via the chemist as your request is then sent to the surgery as a paper format.  The Practice can still nominate your chemist to send the final electronic version of the prescription if you have a preferred chemist.

If you have not signed up to Patient Access, then please contact the surgery for further information.

Use this link to download a form for any Adult patients at the surgery: Patient Online Access Registration Form (** Please ensure that you print this form and bring this to the surgery with the necessary documents**)

If you are a parent and are applying to gain Patient Access for your child, or you wish to apply for Patient Access for another person (i.e. adult relative), so you can order medication/communicate on their behalf, then please download the proxy application form: Patient Online Access Proxy Consent Form(** Please ensure that you print this form and bring this to the surgery with the necessary documents**)

Please be aware that you will need to bring in identification in order to process your application.  Please contact the surgery to confirm what you need to bring before you attend.

We also ask patients to ensure that a nominated pharmacy has been assigned so that prescriptions can be sent electronically.  Prescriptions will no longer be available for collection from the surgery.  If a pharmacy has not been nominated, then the prescription(s) will be sent electronically to the nearest chemist to your registered address unless this has already been confirmed.

Sick notes will be sent out via a secure link in a text message or as a secure email attachment.  Self-certification notes can be downloaded using this link: Self-Certification-CertificateWe would also ask that all patients ensure that we have their correct e-mail address, as well as their mobile telephone number on their records.

If you are experiencing a new continuous cough or a fever over 37.8 degrees, then please self-isolate for 7 days – DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY

If you feel unwell with your symptoms or your condition worsens/does not improve after 7 days then please use the 111 online coronavirus service: https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/

Please also refer to the guidance available on the NHS England website for more information: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

We are grateful for your patience during this period of change.

Regards
